Experimental comparative study of arterial implants made of silicone reinforced with polyester fabric and expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) in rabbits aorta

ABSTRACT Objectives: the aim of this study was to compare outcomes a new silicone vascular prostheses with PTFE prostheses, on rabbit experimental model. Methods: forty rabbits underwent infra-renal aorta replacement 4 mm diameter twenty animals PDMS and (control group). Retrograde aortic angiography performed assess patency. Histological graft samples were examined by electron microscopy evaluate endothelialization. Results: patency rates 100% for both grafts after 30 days; 60 days, rate 92.3% (±7.4), 73,8% (±13.1) at 90 days. had 87.5% (±11.7) No statistically significant difference found in between groups (p=0.62). Postoperative complications (death, paraplegia) (p=0.526) clamping times (p=0.299) comparable groups. stenosis angiographical analysis (p=0.650). Electron revealed limited anastomotic endothelial ingrowth prostheses. Conclusion: model, prosthesis could be used as graft.
